For your money, what do you get?

A number of benefits are available to YouTube Premium users, such as ad-free streaming, offline downloads, background plays, high-bitrate 1080p video, and ad-free access to YouTube Music. These perks are still available despite the price increase, which may continue to draw in the service’s more than 100 million global users.

How does YouTube Premium compare with others?

If you’re curious about how YouTube Premium compares to other streaming services, it’s worth considering several factors:

  1. Content Offering: Unlike traditional streaming platforms like Netflix or Disney+, which focus primarily on movies and TV shows, YouTube Premium provides an ad-free experience across all YouTube content. This includes music videos, user-generated content, and YouTube Originals, plus access to YouTube Music.
  2. Price: YouTube Premium’s pricing is generally competitive, but it varies depending on your plan (Individual, Family, or Student). With the recent price increase, it’s essential to compare the value you get from ad-free YouTube, music streaming, and original content against other services.
  3. Ad-Free Experience: YouTube Premium’s primary selling point is the elimination of ads, which is particularly appealing for heavy YouTube users. Most other streaming platforms offer ad-free options, but they typically focus on their own exclusive content.
  4. Offline Viewing: YouTube Premium allows users to download videos for offline viewing, similar to Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. However, this feature extends to all YouTube content, not just a curated library.
  5. YouTube Music: Included with YouTube Premium is YouTube Music, which competes with services like Spotify and Apple Music. It offers a vast library of songs and music videos, and the ad-free experience carries over to this platform as well.
  6. Platform Integration: YouTube Premium integrates seamlessly with Google services, making it a convenient choice for users already embedded in the Google ecosystem.

Overall, YouTube Premium offers a unique package that combines ad-free video streaming, music, and original content, making it a strong contender for users who frequently engage with YouTube content. However, its value compared to other streaming services depends on how much you use YouTube and its associated music platform.

How YouTube Premium stacks up against other streaming services

Spotify Premium: Individuals pay ₹119 per month, families pay ₹179 (for up to six accounts), and students pay ₹59. Spotify allows you to listen to music in any order, download songs offline, and enjoy high-quality music without advertisements.

Apple Music: Individual monthly fees are ₹149. For ₹195 a month, users who subscribe to various Apple services may choose the Apple One plan, which includes 50GB of storage in addition to Apple Music, Apple TV, Apple Arcade, and iCloud+. The family plan, which comes with 200GB of iCloud+ storage and allows up to five users to use the services, costs ₹365 per month.
